VJ Sandwoman (tijdens de Opening en gedurende de gehele expositie)

Sandwoman, bekend als sneerlands eerste Second Life VJ, creeerde speciaal voor deze expositie materiaal over een onafhankelijke moslim vrouw, gekleed in een Burka, die op een liefdevolle manier de èchte schoonheid van Second Life ervaart.

Met vragen, antwoorden, ontdekt zij dat er in elke religie wereld op Second Life de basis om liefde, vriendschap en respect draait. Zo ontdekt zij de diverse exotische werelden, werelden van de Islam, de werelden van de Christelijke kerk, de Mormonen, de Bahá'is, de Boeddhisten, etc. De enige wereld gebaseerd op haat, is die van de blanke, westerse neo-nazi's.

The national flag is the face of the country we life in and yet it is
not possible to have a say  in how it should look. We are used to
customize everything around us, we can choose which clothes we wear,
where we shop and what food we eat, but the symbols of our national
identity we can't change.
This project gives people an opportunity to draw an idea for a new dutch
flag based on their situation in the Netherlands, and in this way show
the state of the nation in the minds of it's people. For this exhibition
people from Bos en Lommer and Slotervaart have made the drawings for the
installation.

In this animation we see the movement of an abstract form consisting of small lights that reminds us of a starry sky. The form slowly transforms itself into an image of an Islamic dome which turns continuously around its centre.

Socks

I created 12 pairs of socks but the small ones called kousenvoetjes. With them one can just put them on even if he wears thick socks of himself. And its mainly to keep the carpets protected and for hygiene reasons if someone doesnt want to step on the carpet wearing his own socks.

The print on one side will be a moroccan print found in a woven kilim. And the other side a dutch print from the bauhaus movement using similar forms. So in a way the sock will have 2 sides to it.A moroccan and a dutch or a eastern and western approach which amazingly look very much alike.

In one sock the prints become one since the pattern logically connects.
Still they are 2 patterns found in 2 sides.You choose which side to wear.

The little cars in the window
Het werk is een video-installatie van observaties tijdens een reis.
Reizen betekent je bewegen, het onverwachte tegenkomen. Het betekent een situatie opzoeken die je niet begrijpt. Alles is nieuw en onbekend. Je weet alleen maar wat je ziet.
Het gaat in de installatie over beweging.  Elke beweging volgt zijn eigen logica. De verschillende bewegende objecten en personen merken elkaar niet op en hebben geen enkele invloed op elkaar.
De video-installatie is geplaatst in een kantoorgebouw dat een moskee is, waar de snelweg onder doorgaat. Een plaats van ver weg, midden in Nederland.

1. 'The World'

The instruction is to draw what you first think when you hear the word WORLD, it's a very simple way to show how different reality can be.

The image of the world, a very common clear fact/image can be taken very subjective... There can be so many different ways of seeing one same thing; personal situations and feelings are all the time affecting the way we "picture" things that are suppose to be specific facts.

2. 'Praying also for you...?'

This projection has two purposes.

One, is to let the outside world know what is happening inside this squatted place.

The other one is, by this 're-direction' of the prayer to the outside; to revive the idea that praying is in a way a concentration of good energy for a positive cause.
In general, all religions preach for the good behavior of human kind. They teach about the good and the bad.
Religious people pray for good things to come, just as we all put good energy into the things we want to achieve and we 'wish' they will come true.
In many religions and aboriginal ceremonies it is also prayed for the wealth of the planet and the human race.



3. 'Not a children's game'  /  'Todos cortados con la misma tijera'

Animation projection

In spanish we have a saying: "all cutted with the same scissors' to say for example that all men are equal...
In English they say: "all cutted from the same cloth"

The animation consist of a close up through a chain of paper dolls with human faces, The chain appears from the two sides of the screen. The paper chain is this what you do as children.

We are all cutted with the same scissors; as human beings we are equals, so discrimination and inequality are always wrong but, on the other hand, connecting people is not always a children's' game.
A bridge has always two sides and making one, means doing an action that will off course have a reaction.

This project is a statement: We are all equals as human beings, but relationships have two sides. Respect and tolerance have to come from both sides.
This project is also a question: How are we managing the concept of openness and connection between different cultures?
Tolerance is something completely different than self interests. Relationships built up by self interests are always unequal.

Met een enorme videoprojectie neem ik de ruimte in, die bedoeld is om
geld te verdienen, maar omdat het leeg staat, kan ik de ruimte vullen
met mijn tekst.
Wat is de betekenis en het doel van een gebouw?

Dit is een kantoorpand van Fortis, wat een van de rijkste bedrijven van
Nederland is. Het staat al jaren leeg, net als vele andere kantoorpanden
in Amsterdam. Maar toch worden er steeds meer bijgebouwd en hebben we
daarnaast een enorm woningtekort. Hoe lang kunnen we deze
uitputtingsslag van het meer en meer geld verdienen nog aan?
